Master of the crime novel, Gary Phillips knows his stuff. Monkology is a collection of thirteen stories centered around Los Angeles PI Ivan Monk. Born and raised in South Central L.A. Phillips uses his hometown as a backdrop for his fleshed out characters and hard boiled plotlines. Phillips has worked as a union rep, a community organizer and headed a non-profit organization to better race relations after the 1992 riots.
